Samsung virtual assistant – “Sam” Blender captures

Virtual assistant Sam

This link was recently uploaded to the net showing the concept development of  “Sam” the virtual assistant (may we say Avatar?) for Samsung. You may have seen her this past week flooding the internet with her cheerful poses. Who is to blame that she is so lovely?

Meet “Samantha” the virtual reality assistant attributed to Samsung. After May’s last weekend, social networks like Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, and others, posted this stylized character representing a virtual assistant for Samsung’s phones. Quick disclaimer: I am not -in any way related to any of the companies regarding the creation of this character- I’m just a 3d artist doing a quick review about a stylized girl that was never officially certified by Samsung itself.

Oh no! Boo-hoo, do you mean she’s not officially endorsed by Samsung?
-Correct!

Who is Sam?

Well, the studio that created her removed the details for the process design from their webpage, but I found this link that briefly gives us the mood board of the process and Blender has been spotted and I wanted to share this video review so you can know all the details around this character!

The making of

There was a big team between the companies pitching this character to Samsung. Among the very experienced artists, the task to retopologize the model Sam was assigned to Lucas Falcão. Clothing, hair, and rigging were also done in Blender by Nereu Rocha. He tells us: “-In the animated sequence we used Houdini’s hair system and was later ported to Blender for the final animation“. The digital sculpting was done by Jhonatan Lechar

I must admit I really thought Maya and Cinema 4D were involved in this process, but as the hours developed and this video reached more people in the community, Lucas and Nereu were kind enough to share a little bit of the insight in the process of making one of the most iconic virtual girls of the year: “The Samsung Girl”.

If you have any doubts: “Try Blender. Blender is powerful and BEYOND industry compatible“.

This Blender capture shows a very early stage of what later would become a more stylized human body.
